  • Advice

We are passionate about gardens and love to discuss the topic.

  • Soil Analysis

Soil is the most-overlooked part of gardening but is critical to everything that grows in it. Simple tests that we use can determine the type of soil you have and what is best planted in it.

  • Greenhouse / Shed

If your shed or greenhouse needs a tidy-up, be it a sweep-out, disinfection or glass cleaned, then this winter task is available. Tools oiled and sharpened.

  • Composting

Have a plastic composter full of a soggy mess of old grass clippings that hasn't been touched in years? Then let us take care of it by starting from fresh with a healthy mix of browns and greens which in the long term will save you money on buying compost. All types of composting – hot, cold, wormeries, digesters, etc - are encouraged and we like to experiment with them!

  • Mulching

A spring or autumn activity where exposed soil is 'fed' with organic matter. This tends to involve large amounts of material which we can source and arrange delivery of.

  • Veg Plots

Bishops Gardening Services can produce a veg plot from scratch or tend to a neglected one to provide home-grown produce for your kitchen table. Winter planning is key and then from spring onwards regular ongoing visits are necessary to tend to the plants as they develop.

  • Wildlife Feeders & Homes

We can assist by installing feeders – bird, insect, butterfly, etc - and homes – bat-boxes, hedgehog hotels, or insect boxes - to your garden to encourage wildlife.

  • Hedge cutting is generally done in the warmer months of spring, summer and autumn. The exact time and frequency of cutting depends on whether the hedge is deciduous or evergreen, formal or informal, and whether it's a newly planted or established hedge. We also have to be mindful not to disturb nesting birds from March to August.

  • Of course! We can design a bed or border and prepare and plant it up providing you with with something that you can really admire.

  • Weeding is a very labour-intensive task that can involve an array of strangely-shaped tools and many hours of pain-staking ,often fingertip, work removing not only what you can see but also the hidden roots (wherever possible). Even after many hours of weeding it can often look like little has been done! Whilst it may be convenient to use pesticides, the detrimental effects on the environment and recent evidence suggesting damaging effects on human health as well, means we only use manual tools and equipment.

  • Ponds are one of the key things you can do to increase wildlife in your garden, so wildlife pond design, creation and maintenance are one of the services we provide.
